Zombie Blackjack

$15 Free Bonus - Live Roulette, Live Blackjack, Live Baccarat
Geoff Hall is the inventor of two blackjack variants: Blackjack Switch and Free Bet Blackjack. His latest variant is Zombie Blackjack which debuted at the Venetian on August 9, 2017.

Just like a Zombie who gets to come back to “life” after death, it is possible for a busted player to rise back and win against the dealer. The gist of this Blackjack variant is if a dealer has a 7 up to Ace as his upcard, and the player’s hand busts, the game is not yet over for the player. He still has a chance to win. The busted bet of the player will be set aside, and see if the dealer busts as the game goes on. If he does, the busted bet will be active again, and win more money even. The “push 22” rule applies here. Basically this means that if the dealer busts with 22, players that have not busted and do not have blackjack will “push”.

Zombie Blackjack changes the basic principle of Blackjack, in a sort of positive way. In a normal game of Blackjack, once a player has a busted hand, the game is over for him. In this variant, a player with a busted hand gets to win more if the dealer busts along with him.
A player can still double down and split on top of the Push 22. With this variant, a player has to learn a whole new set of strategy with regards to the ruling of Push 22.

If a dealer’s upcard is 2 through 6, there is no need to change strategy for Zombie Blackjack. However, it is best to double on 9 versus 6; double on all 11’s and 10’s; hit 12 versus 2 to 4; hit 13 versus 2; and stand on all 14s and up. It is best to double on 17 and 18 versus 5, 6, on soft hands. On all pairs of 4s it is best to hit while opting to double on 5s. All Aces are best split. On 4 to 6 versus 6s and on a pair of 7s versus 2, it is best to split, but split others more so on pairs of 8s. It is best to stick on pairs of 9s versus 2 and 3.

If a dealer’s upcard is 7 and up, doubling down is no longer an advantage. For hard hand, it is best to double down on 11 versus 7(dealer’s); hit everything below 17, hitting hard 17s versus 8 to Ace.

For soft hands, it is best to hit soft 18 versus 8, with the player getting two chances for a better hand. If a player fails to get an Ace to 3, and gets a 10 or a Face instead, he has another hit coming. The odds of improving the hand increase. If the player busts, he still has the chance to get a winning hand.

In pairing, it is best to split 2s and 3s versus dealer 8. Hit pairs of 5s versus 7. Pairs of 6s are best split versus a 7. A bust is no longer costly so creating more hands that could bust is alright. Pair of 7s versus 8 is best split. When pitted against dealer upcards of 7 and up, pair of 9s is best split. Split all pairs of Aces and stand on 20s.

A dealer’s bust is not a concern unless a player sticks on hand or holds a 17 or 18. It is not a winning move to stick to sub 18 hands as a player forfeits his chances of improving his hand. Then again, a player can still win by not hitting when the dealer busts with 22.

Zombie Blackjack seems to be a winner with a 99% payback if the pay is 3 to 2.

Mistakes New Blackjack Players Make

Sun_Palace_Casino_Blackjack
Playing a good game of Blackjack takes a lot of experience and hours of learning strategies and approaches. A new blackjack player has a lot to learn about the game hence making mistakes is inevitable. However, these common mistakes new blackjack players make can be easily avoided for greater chances of winning hands.

Taking Insurance

Taking insurance sounds good, but in most cases, it is not worth the trouble and risk. Insurance is a positive move if a player has the experience to accurately count cards, and therefore is almost 100% sure that the dealer has blackjack. Note that unless one is playing in a tournament, the goal in blackjack is to beat the dealer and not necessarily get 21.

The reality of the game is that even the most gifted card counters can only be 80% sure that the dealer has a blackjack. Getting insurance would most likely benefit the casino than the player. Insurance bets are best left to experienced blackjack players.

Money Management

A way of limiting the amount of money a player is willing to lose in a game is called the stop-loss money management system. Basically, the system prods a player to stop playing once he reaches his limit. This system may seem to be a winning move, but as a blackjack strategy, it is not. Why?

The game will eventually pay out. If a player quits every time he loses, he will never ever get back up. Good and experienced blackjack players know that losing is all part of the game, and that riding out losses will eventually pay off.

Betting Higher When Winning

One may call winning streaks as coincidences, and that is the truth! A few good hands does not equate that the next hands will be winners too. So, it is not to one’s advantage to up one’s bet when on a roll. Believe or not, a few winning hands will not increase the odds of winning.

Even Money Odds

Winning the same amount of money that a player bets seems to be a safe way of betting. This practice makes player to bet more on games that has a larger pot to win because they think things will even out in the end, or he has nothing to lose. In the long run, even money will eventually decrease one’s overall winnings. The best “bet” is to know the exact odds before wagering.

As in everything, experience and practice (and a sufficient bankroll) are necessary to win in blackjack.

Ed Thorp: Lessons from Blackjack

Sun_Palace_Casino_Blackjack
Ed Thorp is one of the originals who’s who in Blackjack’s Hall of Fame. A PhD holder in mathematics, Thorp theorized that it was possible to play Blackjack for a profit. All he had to do was figure out how. Beat the Dealer is Ed Thorp’s ground breaking book that detailed the ways and means of winning in the game of 21. His gaming probability theory not only proved to be useful in Blackjack but also became the core foundation in building successful hedge funds.

A Man for all Markets, Ed Thorp’s latest book, details investing lessons he learned from Blackjack strategies.

Blackjack and the Market can both be analyzed

Thorp believes that gambling is a lesser version of investing since both are closed system. This means that the outcome is only affected by a limited amount of factors: blackjack-wise, what cards remain to be played and what cards have been played. Though there are more factors considered in investing, the market can still be analyzed based on evaluation of gathered data.

Developing a strategy

Ed Thorp developed a strategy to win in Blackjack. His approach taught players when to stand, hit or double based on the player’s two dealt cards and the dealers up card, and the possible make-up of the cards yet to be dealt. Though this approach is no longer possible due to current casino rules, new adaptations to make Thorp’s analysis relevant have been made by some authors.

In investing, Thorp analyzed if a stock is overvalued or undervalued. By considering anomalies in pricing, he was able evaluate stocks and make the right decision in his personal investments.

Testing the strategy

Ed Thorp was able to test his gaming theory in the 1950s by using MIT’s IBM computer. Thorp’s research was founded on the Kelly Criterion which is actually a proportional betting system based on the player’s advantage. Today, the availability of computing power is almost unlimited. There are apps and programs available online to help test one’s investing strategy or methodology.

Money management is required

It is not a wise move to over bet in any game of Blackjack even if one has the advantage. There should always be a balance between return and risk in a game of Blackjack. It is the same principle in securities investing. A mistake in capital management collapses the market and almost destabilized the whole financial system of USA in 1998. On the other hand too conservative market investors could miss out on huge returns. It is necessary for both Blackjack players and investors to find the right balance between risk and return to get ahead.

Psychology plays a part

The swings in Blackjack could prove to be mentally trying for most players. It will be hard to place a big bet if one’s bankroll is depleted. However, one must always trust the “math” that sooner (or later) the player will be at an advantage. It’s the same thing with investing. One has to stay and persevere with his methodology and strategy for sooner than later; the money will come flowing in.

Blackjack Dispute Settled in Florida’s Seminole Casinos

Sun_Palace_Casino_Blackjack
It is a win-win situation for the state of Florida’s Gov. Rick Scott and the Seminole Tribe of Florida! The legal battle between the two parties regarding the $2 billion a year gambling operation finally ended on Wednesday, July 5, 2017.

In 2010, the state of Florida and the Seminole entered a deal that allowed the tribe to have slot machines and Blackjack tables in most of its casinos. However, the provision pertaining to the Blackjack clause expired in 2015, which in turn initiated a legal battle between the Seminoles and the state of Florida.

Both parties have now agreed on dropping the continuing litigation over the issue on whether the Seminole tribe can retain Blackjack tables in their casinos such as Hollywood’s and Tampa’s Hard Rock Casinos.

The two sides agreed on the Seminole tribe keeping the Blackjack tables in their casinos up to the year 2030, whereas the state of Florida will be the recipient of a whopping $220 million, and an additional $120 million sometime next year.

Barry Richard, attorney-at-law of the Seminoles, said that there is no loser under the terms of the settlement. He said the Seminoles feel safe and secure in the knowledge that the Blackjack games will continue to dominate their casinos. On the other hand, the state will get their fair share amounting to hundreds of millions.

There might be a problem though as the approval by the Florida legislature is not actually necessary to carry out the terms of the settlement. Also stipulated is for the state representatives to act against a certain variant of card game that dog and horse tracks were allowed to promote. Track owners may be pressed to counter this provision.

The secretary of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, Jonathan Zachem, is highly delighted that the two parties have reached an agreement. Zachem observed that the settlement assured the continuity of the existing Seminole agreement, prohibiting expansion of gaming.

Last year, Gov. Scott and the Seminole tribe tried to work on a better deal that would have included roulette and craps in the equation. However, state legislators vetoed this idea while the lawsuit was pending. Florida’s legislators came up with a more encompassing gambling bill but the bill did not pass.

Robert Hinkle, a U.S. District judge, ruled that dog and horse tracks under Gov. Scott regulators, are permitted to offer card games similar to those exclusive to the Seminole-owned casinos during a 5-year period. Hinkle added that the tribe has another 14 years to keep Blackjack tables in their casinos. Though the state initially appealed this ruling, both parties have agreed to dismiss the appeal.

Blackjack Legend: Don Johnson

6-5_Blackjack_Game_in_Las_Vegas_Strip_Casinos
Don Johnson, of Miami Vice, the ex-husband of Melanie Griffith, and dad of Fifty Shades of Gray’s Dakota Johnson, is a professional blackjack player and gambler. In the world of Blackjack, Johnson is known to have beaten casinos in Atlantic City more than $15 million in 2011.

While most Blackjack legends are known for their card counting skills, Don Johnson made a name in Blackjack simply by using conventional and standard strategies. Yup! Johnson does not count cards. However, he did work on changing standard casino Blackjack to obtain mathematical advantage. One of these changes pertains to dealers staying on soft 17, re-split aces, using six decks, and a 20% rebate wherein casinos are to reimburse 20% of his losses. He believes that it is possible to beat the house if a player has the money to do so.

Atlantic City Winnings

At age 30, Don Johnson started playing professional Blackjack. He made a name in Atlantic City when he won more than $4 million in 2010 at Caesars. Everyone thought the actor was on a hot streak. Surely, Don Johnson is just an actor, and not a professional Blackjack player. But when at the Borgata in Atlantic City, he won another $4.9 million at the Blackjack table; some casino owners had second thoughts on letting him play Blackjack.

In the spring of 2011, Don Johnson graced the Blackjack table of The Tropicana Atlantic City. The casino CEO even graciously offered bets of up to $100,000. After 12 hours or so, The Tropicana CEO could have been banging his head in desperation as Johnson pocketed $5.8 million in Blackjack winnings. The CEO was reportedly fired, and a report indicated that the casino loss 20% in revenue for the said month.

Blackjack King

In a span of only 6 months, Don Johnson raked in $15 million in Blackjack winnings. The Miami Vice star caught the media’s attention, with reporters asking Johnson how he was able to win a huge amount of money in a short span of time.

Don Johnson claimed to have applied standard strategy and a working knowledge of Math to win. He reiterated that if a person has more than enough money to bankroll his games, he will eventually beat the house. However, this is not the case as average players just don’t have an unlimited supply of cash to beat the house.

Don Johnson continues to play Blackjack. He is not just some splash in the pan in terms of winning the game. He is currently the CEO of a Wyoming-based company that deals with online horse race betting software.

Blackjack Dealer Pleads Guilty to a Theft of $10,000 from a Watertown Casino

Grand_Fortune_Casino_728x90
Dakota Sioux Casino was fleeced of some $10,000 by a former blackjack dealer. Operated by Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate, the casino is located on the Lake Traverse Indian Reservation, a few miles from Watertown.

Forty-two-year old Jeremy K. Brown pleaded guilty to the crime of felony conspiracy in the federal court early May 2017.

The crime happened in December 31, 2015, and January 1, 2016. Brown revealed that the scheme involved working with cohorts to pinch cash from the casino.

Aside from Brown, guilty as charged were 44 year-old Lito B. Bolocon; 52-year old Fern F. Gill; and 29-year old Jordan A. Rondell. Court records showed that Jeremy K. Brown and Fern F. Gill worked at the casino as blackjack dealers. Bolocon was the one in charge of the gaming pit allotted for blackjack, whereas Rondell took the role of a card player.

The accusation is that Rondell was paid by Gill and Brown to bet on losing hands. On the other hand, Bolocon allegedly permitted the payouts. Court documents showed that Bolocon, Gill, and Brown took their share of the payouts. In February of the same year, the accused were indicted.

Dismissed upon Brown’s guilty plea is a second charge of theft by an employee of a gaming establishment on Indian land, including a betting and aiding.

Gill, Bolocon, and Rondell have not pleaded guilty. On the 24th of July 2017, their trial will proceed at Aberdeen’s federal court. Each of the accused is charged with felony theft by an employee of a gaming establishment on Indian land including a betting and aiding, and felony conspiracy.

On August 1, 2017, Jeremy K. Brown’s sentencing will commence. One of the stipulations in the agreement is a $2,000 restitution payment. Brown is facing a possible maximum sentence of 5-year imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.

Wayne Rooney’s £500,000 Casino Loss

Grand_Fortune_Casino_728x90
In just two hours, Wayne Rooney gambled away £500,000 at Manchester’s 325 Casino. He came alone and recklessly gambled his money at the roulette and blackjack tables from midnight to two in the morning.

A popular English professional football player, Rooney’s gambling spree came after Manchester United’s win at the Europa League over FR Rostov on the 16th of March. However, Rooney spent his time watching the match from a box at Old Trafford as he sustained an injury prior to the game.

Onlookers claimed that Rooney was losing £4,000 a minute as he hopped between the blackjack table and roulette table. A witness said that Rooney was heedlessly laying down chips of huge amount.

Though drinking beer as he gambled away a fortune, Wayne Rooney appeared to be sober and in complete control of his actions. He bet on a lot of reds on roulette and placed long-shot bets on particular numbers. As he lost each game, Rooney seem undaunted and bet more.

Onlookers said Rooney was betting like mad, as aiming to chase his losses. He was fixated on the table game before him, cursing under his breath at each spin or deal. Lost in his own world, it was not long before the renowned football player lost a huge amount of money.

Wayne Rooney has a history of gambling. It was said that as a teenager he was already keen on gaming back in his hometown of Everton. Married to Coleen and proud father of three boys, Rooney’s gambling is a sore point in their marriage. Back in the early years of their marriage, Coleen was said to have hit the roof when Rooney lost £50,000. In 2008, he lost £65,000 at the 235 Casino within two hours. In 2006 he accumulated a debt of £700,000 in a dressing room gambling ring.

As a VIP client, Wayne Rooney’s account at the Manchester casino is linked to his credit card. As of this moment, no official comment has come from Rooney’s camp.
