Blackjack: When to Double Down

100% Match Up Bonus at Intertops Casino Classic!

In Blackjack, doubling down is one strategy to win big! Referred to as “reaching deep” by dealers, doubling down is a way of making twice as much profit. However, if the cards are not played right, it is sure way of losing all your bet.

Doubling Down Explained

A player makes a bet before being dealt his cards. After he has been dealt his first two cards, he is given the option to double his initial bet. If he does, he will be dealt only one additional card after doubling down. The additional bet is placed next to the original bet in the betting box.

Object of the Game

…Is to beat the dealer, of course. One does not double down just for the sake of it. Considering the fact that the highest score in Blackjack is 21 and that there are 16 cards with the value of 10 in a single deck, doubling down is statistically practicable if a player’s first two cards have a sum of 10 or 11. Who knows? The next (and last) dealt card could be any of the 16 10-value cards. It is also a good idea to double down when a player gets an 11 even if the dealer has an ace.

If the dealer gets a 5 or 6 and a player gets a 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 and an ace, doubling down is highly recommended. The premise is that the there are still more cards left in the deck that can help the player instead of disadvantaging him.

Not Quite Complicated

The basic rules in doubling down are quite simple but expert player strategies behind doubling down gets more complicated. There are players who double down when their first two cards’ sum is 9 and the dealer’s hand is any number except 10. However, blackjack aficionados claim that this strategy will cost them money over the course of time. They say it’s more feasible to double down on a 9 when the dealer’s hand is a 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6.

There are players who will stand on their initial bet if they receive two 5s as compared to the dealer’s 6 or 5. What they do is split the cards and play them as separate hands. This is a bad idea as it is better to consider the two 5s like a regular 10 then double down.

Conclusion

Doubling down is one great strategy to increase one’s winnings in blackjack. However, the opportunity to play that hand is not very common. But when the odds are up, it is best to grab the opportunity and hope to win.

Blackjack Strategies for all player levels

William_Hill_Casino_Blackjack

There are countless stories from players about the exhilarating world of blackjack. Stories about card counting and various blackjack strategies. Various tips and tactics on how to win in blackjack are dispensed left and right by blackjack aficionados but more often than not, they just do not work. What works then?

Winning in Blackjack

The most powerful tool for any blackjack player is basic strategy. Other tricks and techniques just don’t work as effectively. What is important is for a player to take the time and effort to hone his skills in playing blackjack. One can master basic and advanced blackjack strategies and even card counting techniques but it is next to impossible to win in blackjack at all times. Why?

Blackjack is a game of statistics, and highly skilled blackjack players know that to win big, they must play numerous hands, ride fluctuations and perfect their skills. When playing online blackjack, card counting is quite useless as majority of dealers shuffle the deck after each hand. Though playing multiple hands is advised, this does not provide or increase a statistical edge. It does speed the game but one’s chances of winning are not really affected.

Basic Blackjack Strategies

There are three very simple strategies that one can learn and master to win in online Blackjack. A great and winning Blackjack strategy should cover all possible card combinations but this could be helpful to remember when one is engrossed playing.

Below are three basic strategies that are suitable for most hands that a player might encounter during an online game of Blackjack.

All aces must be treated as “1” but not with 7, 8, and 9 where an ace equals an “11”. For example, Ace + 6 equals 7 (6+1; while 8 + Ace equals 19 (8 + 11).

The points total is the sum of all cards held by a player. In this case, a 7 + 6; 5, 4 and 4, as well as A, 4 and 8 are all equal to 13 and should be treated as is.

Blackjack Strategy for Beginners

POINTS TOTALACTION
3 TO 11HIT
12 TO 16HIT if dealer > 6, otherwise STAND
17 TO 20 STAND

In this instance, an exception is A and 7. If the dealer is more than 8, then a player must Hit. If not, the player should Stand.

Blackjack Strategy for Intermediate

POINTS TOTALACTION
ALL PAIRS
except 4s, 5s and 10s
SPLIT
PAIR of 4s HIT
PAIR of 5s HIT if dealer has 10 or A, anything else DOUBLE DOWN
Pair of 10s STAND

Blackjack Strategy For Advanced Players

POINTS TOTALACTION
9
DOUBLE DOWN if dealer < 7
10 DOUBLE DOWN if dealer < 10
11DOUBLE DOWN

What do they mean by a soft vs hard blackjack hand?

Blackjack Ballroom

Often times when playing blackjack, you’ll hear that you will want to hit on a soft 17 and stand on a hard 17. Free Blackjack Money will quickly explain the differences in a soft vs. a hard blackjack hand. It’s all about whether the ace is counted as a 1 or an 11. If the ace is counted as an 11, it’s considered a soft hand and if the ace is valued as a 1, it’s considered a hard hand. A hard hand can also have two cards without an ace. For instance, a 10 and a 7 would be considered a hard hand. In this case, you would want to stand. If you are dealt a soft 17 hand consisting of an ace and a six, you would want to hit. The reason you are to hit on a soft hand is that you aren’t in fear of busting so you can continue to hit and try and get closer to 21.

When picking out a blackjack table, it’s important to check out the rules of that table and find out if the dealer is required to hit or stand on a soft 17. If the soft 17 rule is in effect, meaning a dealer is required to hit on a soft 17, the casino has a higher house edge. The reason for this is that more often than not the dealer will bust however when he doesn’t, he has a greater opportunity to beat your hand by hitting on a soft 17. The odds of the dealer beating your hand counter acts the dealer busting. This gives the casino a .22% greater house edge. Therefore, start out your blackjack play with the best possible rules favoring the player and look out for a table where the dealer has to stand on a soft 17 as the odds will be more in your favor.

If there are no tables requiring the dealer to stand on a soft 17, remember the principles of basic blackjack strategies including knowing when to split pairs, when to double down, when to hit, and to steer clear of taking insurance.

Iggy Azalea Played 12 Hours of Blackjack before Billboard Awards

Uptown Aces Blackjack 728x90

Countless stars admit to love playing the game of Blackjack and the latest star is none other than it rapper- Iggy Azalea. In Las Vegas to perform “Pretty Girls” with Britney Spears at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards at MGM Grand, Iggy calmed her pre-performance nerves by playing a long stint of Blackjack- a whopping 12 hours of it!

Apparently the long hours paid off as she told US news show Extra, “I played blackjack for 12 hours straight yesterday. I changed clothes in the bathrooms. I’m awful.

“I wouldn’t leave, I refuse to lose, that’s my motto… I came up very on top.”

We’re not sure if she can count cards like Ben Affleck, but it sounds like Iggy atleast knows a thing or two about basic Blackjack Strategies.

Iggy’s current boyfriend, basketball star Nick Young, told Extra “She wouldn’t leave, I had to drag her away. She was there from 3pm to two in the morning, it was crazy.”

Iggy Azalea came out on top at the Billboard Music awards too after claiming the Top Rap Song gong as well as Top Streaming Artist and Top Rap Artist.

Blackjack player throws a tantrum in front of Twitch TV viewers

William_Hill_Casino_Blackjack

It is one thing to lose your trousers at the blackjack table in front of a few other players, and maybe a few bystanders at a casino. Perhaps you will let out a few choice expletives before sulking off to drown your sorrows and plan what you are going to tell the wife. Usually, those that lose online have the anonymity of the Internet to save their blushes. However, since the advent of Twitch.TV, these days you can win and lose in front of thousands of viewers. Very cool if the former – rather embarrassing if the latter, and even more so if it happens in front of 40,000 viewers and your reaction is an epic tantrum.

Enter into the story Chance ‘Sodapoppin’ Morris and his household meltdown after losing a single hand of Blackjack with over $5,000 at stake. Chance can be seen hurling items while stomping around his apartment after the dealer does not draw the face card he wants.

This video has now gone viral and in a world where all publicity is good publicity, this has proven to be the case as Morris has picked up a lot more traction on his Twitch channel from his previous 40,000 viewers. In fact, Sodapoppin is up to 824,085 followers and if everyone tipped him for the viewing pleasure of his antics, he would be a well off man by now! Maybe he will make online tantrums his signature act. Though next time, maybe actually break some thing Chance. Hurling your hoodie (or whatever that was) is not really very rock’ n’ roll.

Chance might be in a different dimension to most players if he is pitching up $5,000 on a blackjack hand. At FreeBlackjackMoney.com, we encourage you to be a little smarter with your bankroll and only bet what we you can afford to lose. We also encourage you to be smart enough to take advantage of the free blackjack money we offer to pad out your bankroll.
